How this list was built
Not by taste, and not from memory. Steam lets players tag games, and Railborn itself carries both Survival and Trains. Asking Steam for every game carrying both of those tags returns 77 games, Railborn included. Of those, 13 have a 2026 release date that has already passed.
That is the whole method, and it is reproducible: the tag numbers were read off Railborn’s own store page, not guessed. It also means the boundary is Steam’s, not ours — a game nobody tagged is missing, and a loosely tagged one is included.

The three closest to Railborn
On one criterion only, and it is a criterion of premise rather than quality: the train is the base, and the world is not Earth. Three of the 13 qualify — EverRail, ExoTrain, OxyRail. All three are in Early Access, and all three reached players while Railborn remains a future release with a summer 2027 Early Access target.
That is worth stating plainly rather than hiding: a reader waiting for Railborn has, as of 5 September 2026, three released games built on the same idea. Whether any of them is good is not something this site can tell you, and it will not pretend otherwise.
