Railborn system requirements

Washbear Studio has not published any system requirements. Every field on the Steam page reads “TBD” — minimum and recommended alike.

That is the whole of the official answer, and it has not changed. What the studio has done is name the hardware it aims at, in two development posts from 2025. Those numbers are real and worth knowing — but they are targets, not requirements, and this page keeps the two apart.

What the store page actually lists

0 of 4 named fields carry a value. The table below is read from the store data itself, not retyped — if the studio fills a field in, it appears here.

FieldOSPublished valueTBD
FieldProcessorPublished valueTBD
FieldGraphicsPublished valueTBD
FieldSound CardPublished valueTBD

One line on that page does carry information: “Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system”. It is the only hardware statement the store makes, and it rules out 32-bit systems.

Windows only. No console has been announced anywhere, by anyone at the studio.

The hardware the studio says it is aiming at

Read these as development targets, not as requirements.

A performance target is what a studio tries to hit while building. A system requirement is what it commits to once the game ships. Washbear Studio has published the first and not the second — and the difference is not pedantic: a target can move, and these were set before a year of new systems went into the game.

[…] We chose this target after consulting with the Steam hardware survey as a balance between accessibility for players and resources for us to make an awesome game. Of course, the resolution you're playing at and other factors can make it easier to play on less powerful machines.”View original source

Why this page will not turn those into a spec box

It would be easy, and every other page about this game does it: take the 1660 Ti, take the 4 GB of video memory, put them in a table headed “Minimum”, and publish. The result reads like an official requirement and is not one.

Two reasons that matters here. The targets were written in July and August 2025; since then the studio has added weather, biomes, a maturity system, underground bases, co-op and a mini-map — all documented in its own posts. And the studio itself frames the second figure carefully: a 1660 Ti at medium settings, with the note that resolution and other factors change the picture.

What the targets do tell you is real, and it is the useful takeaway: the studio is building for a mid-range machine from 2019, tests every build on one daily, and says so publicly. That is a deliberate choice, not an accident.

What would change this page

One thing only: the studio filling in the fields on its own store page. Update 015 targets Early Access for summer 2027, but does not give an exact launch day. What the studio has committed to for Early Access →
