Growing plots

A growing plot is the starting point of a train-car biome in Railborn. Seeds found during exploration produce mote-bearing plants, while other elements in the plot can influence crop growth and output. The description makes a plot a small growing environment with interacting contents. It does not present a fixed planting layout that applies to every biome.

Washbear explains plots in Update 011 on 5 May 2026. The post starts with a simple plot and builds towards a train car taking on the character of a particular biome as more of its crops are added. It then introduces plant maturity, showing that the environment around a crop matters as well as the seed planted in the soil.

Plots bring together seeds, ecological elements and the maturity system. Cover, heat or a rock are examples of conditions a plant might require; a mature plant may return better motes or reduce the plot’s water needs. Common Lilly supplies a specific cover example. These relationships describe why plot contents matter, without identifying one arrangement as the best use of space.

Plot dimensions, construction materials and watering equipment are not specified in this announcement. Neither are the complete planting rules or environmental requirements of each species. The Coral Buff combination is an illustrative example, not a tested growing recipe. A playable build or a detailed planting demonstration is needed before layout or efficiency advice would be justified.
