What it is

The Nexus is what Washbear Studio calls the brain of your train. Announced on 25 November 2025, it is described as one of the ways to improve your overall survival capacity through a built module. The studio lists four things it expands: incline ability, which matters on a planet whose tracks climb mountains; engines, where more engines mean more speed and more base size; platforms, needed to grow production and biomes; and bonus oxygen. The post also names Nexus Cores and encourages collecting them, without explaining their exact use.

How it was revealed

The Nexus arrived in Update 006, the sixth of the monthly posts Washbear has published without missing one since June 2025. The studio framed it as still moving: “I can see this change over time – especially when you all start providing feedback during Early Access.” That sentence is worth keeping in mind — the four expansions listed above are the state of the design on 25 November 2025, not a final specification. The Nexus post ends with a disclaimer: any features written about might change before and during Early Access.

How it connects

The Nexus brings several expansion capabilities into one published discussion: climbing mountainous tracks, adding engines, expanding platforms and gaining bonus oxygen. Later updates describe plots and biomes on train cars, and routes opened through train upgrades or exploration on foot. These are related parts of the train-and-exploration design, but their complete dependencies are not published. The sources do not explain how Nexus oxygen upgrades interact with portable tanks, or how Cores are consumed.

Open questions

The question people will bring to this page is when to build a Nexus, and what it actually buys them. Here is what can be answered from the announcements reviewed on 7 September 2026: Washbear says you will likely want one relatively early in the game, and that it expands four specific capacities. What is not answerable: the numbers. No cost, no yield, no tier list has been published. Private playtests exist, but we have no public build or direct play evidence from which to recommend optimal Nexus timing. We will revisit this section when public play evidence becomes available.
