Ocean & underwater areas
Undersea exploration is a stated plan for Railborn, and Washbear Studio says that plan led it to implement swimming beneath the surface.
What it is
Undersea exploration is a stated plan for Railborn, and Washbear Studio says that plan led it to implement swimming beneath the surface. The Steam description also presents branching paths that dive into the sea. These statements establish an underwater direction for the game, without supplying an ocean map, a list of underwater destinations or a complete description of how trains travel there.
How it was revealed
Update 012 explains the decision to include underwater swimming on 7 June 2026, rather than restricting movement to the water’s surface. On 6 July, Update 013 adds a separate possibility: the mountain tunnel system will likely be extended to the ocean. That tentative tunnel statement should retain its uncertainty even though the earlier post already describes swimming and planned undersea exploration.
Source language: English. Original wording preserved.“Since we do plan for you to explore under the sea we decided to have under water swimming.”
How it connects
The announced relationships involve swimming, railway routes and a possible extension of the tunnel system. Mountain tunnels already have their own described system and tunnel biome, but the July post only proposes carrying the idea into the ocean. Neither that proposal nor Steam’s sea-bound paths establish an underwater station, a submarine train upgrade or specific resources obtained from the seabed.
Open questions
The named danger is limited survival in water early in the game: the June post says the player probably will not survive there for long. It does not explain the cause or give a safe duration. As of the sources reviewed on 7 September 2026, exact underwater access requirements and protection equipment are unspecified, and ocean tunnels remain a possibility rather than a confirmed way through the sea.
