What it is
Trestle bridges appear in Railborn’s development record as both a real-world inspiration and an implemented example of rail automation. Washbear first discussed mountain railways and a visit to Canadian trestles, then named trestles in its private-playtest report. That establishes more than an inspiration, while leaving player-facing construction, repair and crossing rules unspecified.
How it was revealed
Update 005, published in October 2025, connects Railborn’s landscape with mountain railways experienced by the team. Update 007 adds a development fact in December: trestles are an example of rail automation the studio had implemented. That passage discusses graphics stability during private testing. It does not describe how a player constructs or modifies a trestle.
Source language: English. Original wording preserved.“We had implemented a fair amount of rail automation; for example the trestles.”
How it connects
The published connections are to the railway landscape and to the studio’s implemented rail automation. The playtest report concerns technical stability, not a progression requirement or a building recipe. It does not connect trestles to a named tool, resource cost or train upgrade. Those relationships remain open rather than being inferred from the existence of the structures.
Open questions
As reviewed on 7 September 2026, trestles are no longer documented solely as an inspiration: the December report explicitly mentions their implementation. The unconfirmed label concerns the missing player-interaction rules. Neither reviewed passage provides construction, repair or crossing requirements, so this page cannot yet serve as a guide to using them.
