Farms & rare plants
Farming in Railborn supplies more than scenery for the train.
What it is
Farming in Railborn supplies more than scenery for the train. Plants provide most motes, and increasingly rare plants are described as producing more valuable motes as the game progresses. The growing environment can also alter their output. Together, these details make cultivation part of ecological restoration and technology progression, rather than an isolated food-production system.
How it was revealed
The January 2026 co-op update mentions farms among the train systems whose state must stay synchronized between players. Update 011 explains plant cultivation in May. In August, Update 014 adds an exploration connection: abandoned Atlas research bases contain plants required to unlock technology. These posts describe complementary parts of the same growing-and-discovery loop.
Source language: English. Original wording preserved.“Now, as the game progresses you hopefully find increasingly rare plants that produce more valued motes.”
How it connects
Exploration supplies seeds and access to plants, while train platforms provide space for production and biomes. Cultivated plants yield motes; depositing the corresponding motes in vaults rebuilds a biome and unlocks technology. The research-base announcement adds a reason to leave the train, but it does not identify which rare species belongs to each base or what that species unlocks.
Open questions
A complete crop list, rarity scale and plant-location map have not been established by the reviewed updates. Nor do they equate every cultivated plant with food. The specific rewards, harvest schedules and automation options would need their own evidence. This overview follows the published progression loop without turning it into a claimed optimal farming strategy.
