Train height
A taller train has two stated uses in Railborn: more space for gardens and machines, and a way to get closer to elevated resources.

What it is
A taller train has two stated uses in Railborn: more space for gardens and machines, and a way to get closer to elevated resources. Washbear’s example is Vesperite ore, whose nodes often sit on the high ceilings of tunnels. Height therefore has a published connection to resource access as well as the size of the mobile base.
How it was revealed
Update 014, dated 4 August 2026, explains those uses without naming a maximum height. Update 015 adds a limit in a playtest picture caption on 12 September 2026: the maximum was then three floors. The caption says the team had forgotten to put that limit into the pictured test. It records an announced development limit, rather than demonstrating that the limit was enforced in that scene.
Source language: English. Original wording preserved.“This is what happens when we forget to put in the max height limit (which currently is 3 floors)”
How it connects
The example links vertical construction to tunnel exploration and Vesperite. Gardens and machines provide another reason to expand upwards. These are the relationships the studio actually describes: the announcement does not supply a chain of required upgrades, or explain how height interacts with every tunnel and track on Vesper.
Open questions
The three-floor limit is dated to Update 015, not guaranteed as the final construction rule. That post warns that features may change before and during Early Access. The reviewed updates do not specify floor dimensions, tunnel clearance rules or mining reach. Getting closer to a ceiling deposit does not establish that every deposit becomes accessible, or that every train shape fits through every tunnel. We have no firsthand play evidence to test those interactions.
