What it is

Railborn’s mini-map is an announced navigation display for the player when stepping off the train. Washbear Studio introduced it in August and points to its position in the bottom-right corner of the illustrated view. The post describes a feature already added to the development version, while openly questioning whether that much assistance fits the intended difficulty and mystery of exploration.

How it was revealed

Update 014, published on 4 August 2026, explains that the team originally wanted exploration to remain somewhat difficult and mysterious. The mini-map represents a change being tested against that intention. Washbear says further playtests might show it to be too powerful for wandering through the world, so its announced presence should not be read as a final commitment to the same design at release.

How it connects

The explicit trigger connects the mini-map to leaving the train. Other announcements describe on-foot exploration to find bases and open bypasses, making those related exploration topics, but no shared marker system is specified. Information towers separately reveal local Core locations and track layouts. The sources do not establish exactly which tower discoveries appear on the mini-map or whether its display depends on visiting a tower.

Open questions

As of the August announcement reviewed on 7 September 2026, the known behaviour is the display provided when stepping off the train. Its range, marker categories and customization options are not described. The studio’s own unresolved question is whether it makes exploration too easy. That uncertainty concerns the future design; it does not erase the explicit statement that a mini-map has been added.
