What it is

Engines are part of the train expansion described in Railborn’s Nexus update. The studio connects additional engines with greater speed and base size, while explicitly noting that engines are not all equivalent. That establishes a role in the scale and movement of the train. It does not supply engine classes, performance ratings or a formula for how propulsion is calculated.

How it was revealed

Update 006, published on 25 November 2025, lists engines among the capabilities expanded through the Nexus. The post says the division between mechanical machines and Nexus unlocks is still being explored. Engine progression therefore has an announced place in the design, while the exact unlock process remains subject to development and player feedback.

How it connects

The Nexus discussion places engines beside incline ability, platforms and bonus oxygen. Platforms support production and biomes; engines are described in terms of speed and base size. This connects propulsion to the expanding mobile base, but it does not prove that engine count alone determines every climb, or that adding a particular platform consumes a fixed amount of engine capacity.

Open questions

The announcement gives no engine recipes, fuel types, efficiency figures or maximum train dimensions. It also does not identify a best engine or publish a progression order. Those require named engine specifications or observations from a playable version. The qualitative relationship with speed and base size should not be converted into an invented performance table.
