Branching track network
Railborn’s railway is a branching network with junctions and changes in elevation.
What it is
Railborn’s railway is a branching network with junctions and changes in elevation. The Steam description places its paths through mountains and into the sea, while Washbear’s April update explicitly rejects a linear track layout. The network is the setting for train travel and exploration; these descriptions do not establish that players lay its tracks themselves or that every route is available immediately.
How it was revealed
Update 005 describes a planet tangled in tracks on 21 October 2025, with mountain railways as an inspiration. Update 010 then discusses the challenge of representing junctions, elevation and track types on a map. In July, Update 013 clarifies access: train upgrades overcome inclines and weather effects, while exploration on foot opens secret bypasses. The sources progressively explain travel without publishing a complete world map.
Source language: English. Original wording preserved.“As you know our tracks are not linear, there are junctions, ups and downs.”
How it connects
Several documented systems describe different parts of navigating this network. The Track Switcher selects a direction at a junction, information towers reveal local layouts, and mainline versus off-road tracks distinguish conditions that affect speed. Bypasses add routes opened through exploration on foot. These are stated relationships, not enough information to calculate a fastest journey or a complete progression route.
Open questions
A visible railway should not be read as an immediately accessible route: the July post explicitly says some tracks are unavailable at first. It names upgrades and on-foot bypass exploration, but gives no complete access order. As of the sources reviewed on 7 September 2026, the network’s full topology, route lengths and generation rules remain unspecified, so a dependable route guide cannot yet be derived from these descriptions.
