01A new Early Access target

Washbear now plans to release Railborn in Early Access in summer 2027. The studio says the original plan was 2026, but multiplayer experimentation went well enough that it was added before Early Access. That extra work created an unexpected delay. The announcement comes from a two-person team, so the explanation describes the cause of the change without making the new season a guaranteed launch date.

02Private playtests, public demo and Steam signup

Private playtests are ongoing through February 2027 and are meant to include single-player demo testing, multiplayer demo testing and different Early Access segments. The studio says it is still selecting people who had already joined its original list; that statement does not establish that a new private sign-up is open today. Separately, it plans a public demo for October and November 2026: the current plan is to put it online for about a week, take it down to iterate, then repeat. Steam signup is planned for December 2026 through March 2027, after the initial signups have been exhausted. These are current plans, not fixed appointments.

03What multiplayer changes

The schedule is also a change in scope, not only a later date. Washbear says Railborn had been planned as single-player for Early Access in 2026, then chose to bring multiplayer forward rather than wait for a 1.0 release. That makes co-op part of the stated Early Access plan, while leaving its final feature set, session rules and reliability to later evidence.

04What the team says about the change

In the update’s Q&A, the studio says the two developers work seven days a week and asks readers to keep Railborn on their wishlists. It also explains why a demo was not prepared for PvE Fest: even a short demo adds work that the team preferred to spend elsewhere. The post apologizes to readers disappointed by the delay while presenting multiplayer as a feature the team chose to bring forward.

05What Update 015 establishes — and what remains open

This post establishes a summer 2027 Early Access target, a planned public-demo window, a later Steam-signup window and multiplayer before Early Access. It does not provide an exact launch day, a price, final access conditions or a currently available public build. Gamescom impressions and playtest pictures add context, but they do not turn the roadmap into a promise or prove that the game is publicly playable today.
