What it is

Railborn’s intersection display communicates the approaching junction rather than assuming the train has a permanent front. Washbear Studio describes an in-world icon showing distance and available paths, alongside the built Track Switcher’s digital display. The player can select left, straight or right, but the displayed options describe the upcoming intersection; every junction is not promised to offer every direction.

How it was revealed

Update 004 explains the design on 18 September 2025. Building a train piece by piece creates a problem for relative directions, because the player chooses where its controls face and the train’s front changes with travel direction. Washbear presents the in-world distance icon as something it is trying, and illustrates the relationship between the approaching junction and the switcher display.

How it connects

The Track Switcher is the control linked to these intersection cues. Its display shows the upcoming junction in the direction of travel even when the component faces the other way, and multiple switchers synchronize their direction setting. The branching network gives these choices their context. This announcement describes local route selection, without establishing a system for planning or automatically following an entire journey.

Open questions

The key distinction is between the orientation of a built control and the direction the train is travelling: the published display follows travel direction. The September source reviewed on 7 September 2026 does not specify how late a choice can be changed, what happens if no choice is made, or whether the icon can be customized. Its illustrated distance is an example, not a universal warning range.
