Update 011 — Motes, biomes and the maturity system

01Summary of the announcement
Washbear’s May update explains a progression loop built around cultivating plants and restoring biomes. Most motes come from plants grown by the player, although some can be found in the world. The studio describes them as the currency used to upgrade the technology tree. It opens the post with a spoiler warning: this is a system the author would prefer to discover while playing.
02From growing plots to technology
The account begins with a simple plot on a train car. Seeds found in the world produce mote-bearing plants, while other ecological elements can affect crop output and growth. As more crops associated with a biome are added, a train-car biome starts to emerge. Depositing the corresponding motes in a vault rebuilds a biome and unlocks technology; Forest motes provide the studio’s example. The post does not show the complete unlock tree or a vault procedure.
03Why the growing environment matters
Plant maturity adds another layer. Meeting environmental conditions can improve mote quality or give a different benefit, such as reducing the plot’s water needs. Common Lilly is the concrete example: cover allows it to reach a later maturity stage and produce a starred mote. A separate Coral Buff example illustrates mixing plot contents to change growth. Its hypothetical wording matters, so the example’s figures are not treated as settled game statistics or a tested planting recipe.
04What this establishes — and what remains open
The update connects exploration, cultivation, ecological restoration and technology. It does not give a complete crop catalogue, harvest timings or upgrade costs. The studio asks readers for feedback and warns that features may change before and during Early Access. Later announcements can add detail, but this article describes what Update 011 itself establishes. The linked system pages follow those subjects as further evidence becomes available.
