Getting run over by your own train
A moving train can run over its own player or their friends in Railborn.
What it is
A moving train can run over its own player or their friends in Railborn. Washbear describes this in Update 010 after multiplayer testing made jumping aboard feel too low-stakes. The post distinguishes boarding from the side, which it calls safe in that example, from being struck by the train. It does not supply a broader collision or damage model.
How it was revealed
The April 2026 update explains the design change through local multiplayer testing. Jumping onto a moving train was fun but lacked consequences, so the team introduced the possibility of running yourself over. The same passage explicitly extends the danger to friends. This describes the intended interaction without establishing the eventual balance of train collisions.
Source language: English. Original wording preserved.“If you end up being t-boned by your train, adios. Does this mean you can run over friends? Of course it does.”
How it connects
The mechanic connects moving trains, on-foot players and cooperative play. It makes the train a source of danger during contact as well as a vehicle that friends can board. The source’s side-boarding example and its collision warning concern different situations; they do not establish a universal boarding immunity, a speed threshold or a general rule for every impact.
Open questions
The announcement does not explain hit detection, collision speed, recovery or what happens to carried items afterward. Its informal fatality wording supports the danger but cannot be converted into precise damage values. A later explanation or a testable build would be needed to describe repeatable boarding conditions beyond the particular distinction Washbear published.
